EV sales growth flattens. Time for hybrids to shine?
Sales growth in electric vehicles, led by Tesla and BYD has long suggested the end of gasoline and diesel fuel in the transportation sector. While fuel cells are a viable clean option, lower costs in battery production have made pure electric vehicles the sales leader in green transportation.
But can the momentum of early adopters be maintained? Market surveys suggest that EV sales growth is flattening, as MSRP’s and a lack of public charging infrastructure dampen demand.

Tailgates were better in the 1970's

Before there were SUVs, there were station wagons, and millions of families loved the fake wood panelling, roof rack, but importantly, a comfortable ride with plenty of hauling capacity. In the age before the SUV, this was a hotly contested market for the Detroit Three. Ford claimed to own this segment, and a major selling feature was their innovative two-way tailgate, which flipped down like a...

@JSFGuy --- What maintenance exactly? Oil changes? Timing belts? Water pumps? Fuel injectors? Spark plugs? Oil filters? Head gaskets? Radiators or radiator fans? Turbo? Exhaust manifold? Muffler? Catalytic converter? Transmission? Oh yeah...😅
I suggest revealing the median distance between charging stations in the various counties and states.
The EV has a shelf life big time, they are dying on the vine, they couldn't give them away at this rate, the maintenance and facilities required just won't do it.

I'm thoroughly impressed by the level of engagement in this thread. It's akin to witnessing a symphony of intellect.🍓
EV not ready for prime time. Put them on ice for now until the battery efficiency comes up and loses some weight as well. The only one I would consider is a 2nd generation Nissan leaf.
I am a Robinson pilot and owner. You are absolutely correct: the most dangerous component of any aircraft is the nut behind the controls. You did a great job of capturing the demographic issues that contribute to the accident rate. You fail to explore the fact that there are more Robinson helicopters built and flying than any other civil type, and that therefore their are a very large number of Robinson flight hours being logged per year compared to other types. That also contributes greatly to the number of accidents. You only presented raw accident numbers, not accident rates, and that is very misleading. You also fail to address the demographic roots of the "Robbie hate" that exists in the industry. Most of that comes from retired military helicopter pilots who have never spent a single minute in a piston powered helicopter. Nearly all helicopter pilots coming up a civilian training track have learned in, and later worked in, Robinson products for the first couple of hundred hours before they get a chance to fly larger, heavier, turbine powered helicopters.
Well the trade off is getting a 6 liter V-8 with 120 horsepower and the worst gas efficiency known to man
MONEY and GREED are the reasons why they don't have tailgates like that any more. Itcs the same thing with headlights and tail lights. Headlights used to be just the headlight and the blinkers were seperate from the headlight. Itcs the same with the tail lights. They're going for cheeper over fuction. Sometimes its hard to see a blinker when its so close to the head light. The American Auto infusyry lost its identity to the forgien compatition as they all look alike now. // The AMC Pacer was way ahead of its time as now all vehicles are wide at the bottom and slimer at the top of the vehicle.

Trucking companies are switching to EV.
Probably should consult with YAMAHA, they perfected the concept!
Please do NOT listen to anything Reuters says in regard to Tesla. They have been blatantly lying repeatedly. This is not a news agency. As this video clearly shows, because Tesla never planned to do a single cast. It goes completely against their unboxed process. Google it. But don't click on Reuters links.
I am sorry, but you completely misunderstood both what is happening and the reasoning behind it. Tesla uses Gigacasting for front and rear with the structural battery pack connecting it. They were moving to a completely new 'unboxed' process, which by virtue of being unboxed would not have used a single casting for the entire Chassis. So that bit is just completely obvious nonsense. Apart from that, they now have rowed back on the unboxed completely new process. Not because it is a bad idea, but because with Version 12 their FSD system is making such giant leaps forward that the new process will not be ready for when FSD is ready for 'Robotaxi' mass production. So Elon made the decision to push the introduction of fully unboxed process back and instead create an intermediary step which will be ready for 'Robotaxi'/'Model 2' mass production and while not delivering the same savings as unboxed, will be much better than current processes. So i am glad you didn't say 'i told you so' because this would have taken this video from embarrassing to downright obnoxious.
They don't have to think like Nasa. They have to think like SpaceX. Hmm ....
Meaning that the company did a bad investment.?
It’s not ugly.
Tesla is smart enough to know when they're wrong rather than plowing forward regardless.
yet they went through with cybertruck, but that was probably the muskrat's own project

@Paul1958R 0 seconds ago 'The first rule in government spending: Why build one when you can have two at twice the price' NASA - no tax dollar left unwasted
True 😃- at least they're a step ahead of the Russian Space Agency where every tax dollar/ruble certainly goes to even better use, funding the construction of luxury homes and purchase of oversized yachts.
Longevity tech and biotech will also be huge in the coming decades.
This is baloney, and not news. Not choosing to pursue something that you didn't start to do isn't backing away from it. Tesla has never said it would make a one piece cast chassis because it wouldn't make sense. More than two years ago Mr Musk DID say was the next platform would have a modular architecture with the front and rear being separated so all the interior components could be added without the restrictions of an enclosure. Frame "rails" would impede floor level access.
While I don't recall the exact wording, it was implied that Tesla was going to make huge gigacasting for the full structural component of a car. Yes, that was ridiculous of coarse and maybe Elon didn't say it, but the cult of Elon went on a tear promoting the idea. Thus, it was out there and since Tesla makes no attempt to counter online misconceptions or false narratives, it was a highly contested idea in the comment sections.
Driven by insurance cost to repair and skills and equipment to do so.
In Tesla land, there is no need for repair. Just write it off, buy a new one. Good for Tesla and stockholders.

“That’s it for todays episode of -I Told You So- End of the Line”…
That's funny 😃
Except everything he said in this Video is wrong. And i mean everything. It's quite impressive really.
Doesn't really make sense to do the whole car when the battery pack casting could be the entire middle and the failure rate doing in 3 pieces is much less than one big one. The center section is low complexity too - extrusions probably better and the center and pack assembly can be produced offline then married to the front and rear castings. I can't see any compelling reason to do in one shot.
Did Tesla really say they would cast whole chassis? They showed a rendering a couple of years ago showing a modular subframe assembly for their “M2”. At this point with their structural battery pack, their “chassis” is just two castings connected by 2 sill beams. The is no floor pan. Casting the sill beams at the same time would seem massively inefficient.
Yep. This was never their plan.
2
No, they didn't. This video is a bunch of badly researched nonsense. Tesla was gonna use an unboxed process, which by virtue of being unboxed would never use a single cast. But they are doing a hybrid process now because FSD is progressing much faster than they thought and they need to be ready for Robotaxi mass production. That's what Elon told shareholders.

A unibody is not the same as a big casting, most cars are unibodies, as is my Jeep Liberty
@@anthonyhitchings1051They've been making unibodies since the early 60s ever heard of a corvair.
There's no secret. Honda is good at building 20th century unibody vehicles. The Ridgeline is one. Tne Ridgeline should be compared to a light duty pickup like the Ford Ranger, not anything currently made or planned by Tesla.
